Think that heart disease only happens to men?
Think again.
It's the leading killer of American women and a major cause of disability.
Here are 10 ways that you can be good to
your heart.
Be physically active for 30 minutes each day. |
Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Avoid fat and cholesterol (in foods like butter, meat, eggs, liver,
and junk foods). |
Get your blood pressure and cholesterol checked
regularly. |
Quit smoking. |
Control your weight with a balanced diet and regular
exercise. Avoid fad diets. |
If you have diabetes, monitor and control your
blood sugar levels. |
If you drink alcohol, keep it to one glass a day. |
Find out if anyone in your family has had heart
disease, especially before age 65. |
If you have passed menopause, ask your doctor if
hormone replacement therapy is right for you. |
