POLICE TRAINING CENTER

Building on the original Training Unit for the Gerard L. Gormley Justice Facility, the Atlantic County CORRECTION OFFICER TRAINING ACADEMY was established in 1997. While meeting all the requirements of the Police Training Commission, the Academy provides the training of all newly hired officers in the Atlantic County Department of Public Safety. It now stands as a viable alternative Basic Training Academy for other counties in the State of New Jersey.

The Academy currently provides the Justice Facility with all Correction Officer Basic training, In-service training (for line and supervisory personnel), Boot Camp Drill Instructor training (in concert with Boot Camp personnel), and a variety of specialized training as needed.

Academy personnel also work in concert with the Investigations Unit to form the Professional Development Team. Together, they work on developing and implementing Policies and Procedures, conducting criminal and administrative investigations, recruiting and hiring all employees and providing all training needed.
