VOTING SYSTEM DID YOU KNOW? The Constitution of the United States of America established that Presidential Elections should be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The month of November was chosen by our founding fathers because by November, the fall harvest season was over and citizens have the time to travel to the county seat where most official business was conducted. It was decided that Tuesday should be Election Day because Sunday was a day of religious observance and a day of rest, and the first Monday of the month was generally reserved for official court business in the county seat. Our fore bearers chose the first Tuesday after the first Monday as Election Day so that the voters would have a full day to travel to their polling place in order to exercise their right to vote. |
