Birds, Boats and Bugles at Atlantic County Parks

The Atlantic County Division of Parks and Recreation will host several specials events in May in addition to its regular schedule of programs and activities for children, youth and adults. The county park system contains 14 facilities, including several recreational parks, a golf course, a bikeway, a fishing pier and a veterans memorial park.

On Saturday, May 15 the Atlantic County Parks' team, the Wrending Talons, will participate in the 21st annual World Series of Birding sponsored by the New Jersey Audobon Society. During this statewide bird-a-thon, organized teams of birders seek to identify, by sight or sound, the greatest number of species during a 12-hour period. Money raised by the Wrending Talons through pledges will be designated for projects that promote ecotourism in Atlantic County.

The following Saturday, May 22, the Atlantic County Boathouse at Lake Lenape Park, 6303 Old Harding Highway, Mays Landing, will be the site of an antique boat show sponsored by the Antique Outboard Club of America. The public is invited to attend, from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, to see displays of antique and nostalgic boats and motors.

Atlantic County will hold its twentieth annual Veterans Memorial Day program at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 28 to honor all veterans who risked their lives to preserve freedom. The ceremony will feature a keynote address by Congressman Frank LoBiondo and the traditional presentation of the memorial wreath.
