Tuesday, October 09, 2007 County Adds Bio Diesel Bus to Transportation FleetAtlantic County will add another bio diesel vehicle to its transportation fleet which is responsible for transporting eligible elderly and disabled residents and veterans in need of medical services. The 12-passenger mini bus was donated to the county by New Jersey Transit after it was surrendered to the agency by Kessler Memorial Hospital. Kessler Memorial no longer needed the vehicle after having closed its dialysis center. "We are extremely grateful to New Jersey Transit for donating this vehicle so that it could continue to be used to help meet the needs of residents in need of dialysis and other medical attention," said County Executive Dennis Levinson. With this addition, the county transportation unit now has 14 bio diesel vehicles. Atlantic County provides an average of 600 daily one way trips for various purposes, including doctor appointments, grocery shopping and errands. Dialysis transportation operates six days a week and makes an average of 230 one way trips per week. Residents in need of transportation services may contact the Division of Intergenerational Services by calling 2-1-1. |
