Atlantic County Will Honor Military Heroes at Veterans Service Medal Ceremony
In recognition and appreciation of their sacrifice and service, County Executive Dennis Levinson will honor veterans with the presentation of an Atlantic County Veterans Service Medal at a ceremony to be held on Saturday, June 2 at 10 AM at Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing.
"It is with an enormous debt of gratitude that we present this commendation. Our veterans served to preserve freedom and in doing so, shaped our nation's history," stated Levinson.
Atlantic County began accepting applications for the newly created Veterans Service Medal in February and has received nearly 800 applications to date. Medals are available to eligible Atlantic County veterans, living or deceased, who served in the military.
Relatives or friends of a veteran are invited to apply for the medal on a veteran's behalf. However, medals will only be presented to the veteran or the veteran's next of kin. Those who would like to participate in the ceremony must submit an application by May 1. All others may receive their medals by mail upon approval of their applications. No medals will be distributed prior to the June 2 ceremony. The medals are being produced by Schoppy, Inc. in Linwood.
"We are extremely pleased with the response we have received from our veterans and their families. This is yet another opportunity to express our appreciation and assure them that they will never be forgotten," added Levinson.
Applications are available on the county Web site at www.aclink.org/veterans as well as in the county's library branches, nutrition centers and Office of Veterans Services, 6601 Ventnor Avenue, Ventnor.
