Using ArcMap to Manipulate Data from IMS

You can use your ArcMap software to manipulate and explore the data you collect from IMS sites. You can also use ArcMap to save IMS data to your local system for future access.

To start open up ArcMap and open a new Empty map.
Next, click the add data button. From the pull down menu select internet servers.
If the internet server that you wish to connect to is not in the pull down list select to add internet server.

From here you can type in the URL of the Internet server you wish to connect to. You can also select to connect with all the services on the Internet server or just one Internet server.

If the internet server you wish to connect to is on the list, double click on the server and a list of the available service will appear in the catalog window. Select the service you wish and click add

From here you can take the data and save it to your local server to use as you need.

irst, load in the desired data set. Right click on the layer that you wish to save to your local machine. Select the Selection arrow and select the Select All option.

Once you have Selected All features in the layer you will right click on the layer again, go to the Selection Menu, then select Create Layer From Selected Features. The new layer will appear at the top of your layer list in the table of contents.
From here you will be able to save the data to your local machine. Right click on the selection layer that you created. You will notice that there are many more options for you to use. Right click on the Data arrow and Select Export Data.
Once you select to export data, a menu will come up so that you can select where on your local system you wish to save it as a shapefile. (Note: shapefile is the only format you can save the data as right from the server.)
