The Atlantic County Park System reflects our ongoing commitment to the preservation of open space and the provision of ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. The Atlantic County Park System offers a wide variety of recreational and leisure pursuits. Park programs include large group events, crafts, environmental education, and children's programs. In 1990, voters demonstrated their support for the county park system by approving a special tax to be used exclusively for acquiring open space, recreational land, and historic sites. At present, Atlantic County has thirteen parks, mostly acquired through New Jersey State Green Acres funding.
These thirteen parks and facilities are Oscar E. McClinton Jr. Waterfront Park in Atlantic City, Estell Manor, Lake Lenape, Weymouth Furnace, Penny Pot, Gaskill, Riverbend, Whirlpool Island, Galloway Tract, Leeds' Point and Veterans Memorial Park. The County Park System also maintains three facilities- Klingener Pier, John F. Gaffney Green Tree Golf Course, and Camp Acagisca and the Atlantic County Bikeway. There also many other parks in Atlantic County that are not run by the county government. Because Atlantic County is one of the most diverse counties in the state, each park in the county is unique and has something different to offer. Be sure to visit all of them! General GuidelinesEvery effort is made to provide you, our visitors, with the facilities and programs that will make your visit enjoyable and memorable. Guidelines have been established that will assist in making your visit safe. We encourage you to make the most of your park system. Please take time to review this information. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHTVolunteer of the Quarter - Summer 2011 This faithful volunteer has been patching tubes and mending ball bearings since 1996. His regular job employs 6 days of his week, and on the 7th he somehow finds the time to keep the borrow-a-bike program gliding along. No matter how hot, cold, humid, or buggy, Dave consistently shows up ready to roll if the bikes need fixing. In the frosty season, he dons his biggest belly laugh and inspires all those good little girls and boys to be their not naughtiest self when asking for new bikes and toys. Due to his long-term level of volunteerism Dave was selected to receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award. Congratulations Dave! |
