The Atlantic County Advisory Commission on Women (ACACW), established in 1994, is a nonpartisan organization comprised of 15 volunteer members appointed by the County Executive. The Commissioners represent the 21 jurisdictions in Atlantic County and women's issues in the following areas: women with disabilities, labor, health care, women in the professions, women in government employment, providers of women's services, clients of women's services, education, business, women's service organizations, and women in the home.

Vision Statement
Atlantic County: a community where women and girls choose to live, grow, and contribute toward a more equitable tomorrow.

Mission Statement
The Atlantic County Advisory Commission on Women advocates on behalf of women and girls and encourages programs and policies that foster equality, achievement, justice, and a safe environment.

Commission's Purpose:
The purpose of the ACACW is:

  • To serve as a fact-finding and advisory commission to the public at large, the County Executive, and the Board of Chosen Freeholders by studying the needs, problems, interests, concerns and capabilities of the women who reside, work and visit Atlantic County.
  • To centralize and disseminate information regarding resources, issues, events, and programs which involve women's interests and concerns.
  • To suggest and urge reforms in the law, public policy, and public attitudes towards women.
  • To recommend programs which will help meet the needs of Atlantic County women.
  • To provide a forum to help increase the interaction among County women, organizations, government agencies, and institutions working to improve the lives of women of all ages and their families in Atlantic County.

Our Accomplishments

  • Published "The Women of Atlantic County: A Comparative Study"
  • Publish annual updates of "The Women of Atlantic County: A Comparative Study"
  • Sponsored the "Girls Day at Work" Program
  • Participated in the sponsorship of an International Women's Day essay contest
  • Sponsor an annual Legislative Breakfast
  • Sponsor the annual Service to Women and Girls Award Program
  • Publish and distribute an informational brochure
  • Establish and maintain a web site
  • Sponsored a networking reception for all of the county's twenty-seven advisory boards, commissions and councils
  • Network with local organizations
  • Develop and distribute an automotive safety placard
  • Sponsor a speaker's bureau
  • Sponsor the Girls in Technology Program
