The Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles Cares for Kids Car Seat Safety

The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office is providing Child Seat Safety Fitting Stations in Atlantic County every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Saturday of each month. Please post the below schedule on your fridge!

Child safety seat inspections are an effective method of promoting child passenger safety while helping parents identify potential problems associated with the installation of safety seats. Child restraints are very effective in reducing injuries and fatalities when they are used properly. Yet current studies find 80 percent–85 percent of safety seats are used incorrectly. These errors could result in the child not being fully protected in a crash, increasing the risk of injuries or death.

A listing of child safety seat inspection events that are currently scheduled across the country can be found at the National Child Passenger Safety Board Web site. Nearly 30,000 technicians and instructors have been certified nationally. These child passenger safety advocates put their knowledge to work at public safety seat inspection events, educating hundreds of people and raising restraint usage rates.

We have included an ‘Inspection Schedule’ for all of our Child Seat Safety Inspections, done on a monthly basis at three locations in Atlantic County. To date we have checked well over 300 seats, installed 80+ seats, and given away 34 seats. Or goal is to broaden our delivery of service to meet the needs of the residents of Atlantic County, and provide an opportunity for the safe transportation of our youth.

Child Safety Seat Inspections Provide:
• Awareness of the importance of using child safety seats correctly
• Information on occupant protection issues from trained, experienced safety advocates
• An opportunity for child safety technicians and advocates to keep their technical skills up-to-date
